As Summer Wanes…
03 March 2019
As Summer Wanes.
As the season’s slowly change, and with the closing of the flowers,
Pastel tones float above, a wash of pale greyish blue and lemon yellow clouds.
The wind dies down.
A silence settles.
And all the world lies in wait.
And I stand, looking out across the ocean at the changing seas.
I walk, across the grass and I feel a shift in the trees.
My skin prickles at the coming cool and as the summer wanes, I feel fresh. I feel new.
As the summer wanes we feel life moving on. With or without us long days soon gone.
Its a turning tide for reckless ones as the summer wanes and the darkness comes.

That’s a classy piece of work Nicola and really good video too!
Sounds like you suffer from SAD like me and many others, maybe you need to get an SAD lamp and do an hour a day writing in front of it – they really do help
Oh and don’t forget, the sun’s always shining somewhere and your you g enough to travel and clever enough to sing for your supper if you get my drift! xxx
Thanks Anton! I actually don’t get SAD in Australia but I sure do if I’m doing a London winter. An endless summer is my idea of heaven!! Hope you’re well 🙂
Hi Nicola; Nice moody poem about my favorite time of the year. I didn’t know you were a poet. The piece is very much enhanced by the short video clip and the background music. Your speaking voice reminds me of Madeline Stowe’s. Her speaking sounds like singing. I have taken a few voice lessons on line. Even though there is no crowd around me when it comes to singing I found your lessons to be the most helpful. I’ll look forward to new lessons. Boy if I could just stop singing a bit flat I would be happy. Still, my wife and son love to go to sleep to my picking and singing in the other room.
Hi Greg, Thanks for checking out the poem. I wouldn’t say I’m a poet as such, I just find that writing lyrics is similar to writing poems, except poems are a bit shorter. I like the freedom poems give you in structure and form, whereas songs need to stick to a form to flow properly. Plus they’re super fun to do visuals for because you can be really arty. Have you written any poems???? You should give it a go! Hmmm… maybe I should do a poem writing live class so we can all have fun. RE your flat singing, I actually have a few videos on that already (on YT) but as a general rule, you need to lift your soft palate to raise your pitch.
Must admit I’m not into poetry but really liked this and the video. Expresses this time of year. Don’t
like the short dark winter hours, still prefer “daylight saving”, thats being English for you. Used to love
sitting on the beach with my dog as well, loved watching the sea and the sunsets. Very soothing.
Thanks Jean. Lovely to hear from you as always. I hope you’re keeping well. xx
