Ewok
A Song For My Dog
23 January 2021
I had the worst news given to me on Dec 31 2020. I discovered that my beautiful Havanese dog ‘Ewok’ had advanced liver disease and the vet said there was nothing I could do about it.
Ewok is only 2 and a half years old and my best buddy in the whole world. I decided not to have children because of my Rheumatoid Arthritis and so I poured all of my love into Ewok instead (and my nephew Jimmy). Needless to say I was absolutely devastated.
Apparently it was congenital and he’s been sick the whole time. I thought he was just a super chilled out dog, but it was his liver all along. He didn’t display any symptoms so there was no way of knowing. It was only when his belly started bloating that we discovered it.
The vet gave him a couple of weeks to live, which is when I wrote this song. I still went ahead and got him supplements and these special liver meds and put him on a special diet.
I’m happy to say that three weeks on, he’s still ok! He’s such a little fighter and he is still waggling his tail and enjoying walks… although much shorter because he hasn’t got as much energy. Its all about quality of life for him now.
I know that the end will come, but I’m so grateful for every day that I get to spend with him. Pets truly are our best friends and bring so much love and joy to our lives. We are all so blessed to have them with us.

Please feel free to share stories or photos of your gorgeous pets below. I’d love to see the fury friends in your lives. xxxx
These four legged little guys come into our lives and brighten up many a day for us. They bring a love into our lives that I’ve felt no human could possibly give! I’ve had a few different breeds in my life and can truthfully say there isn’t a day I don’t think about them missing the joy and love they gave without hesitation! Cherish the little time you have left with him, the good times will be what you’ll remember!
Thanks Ray. I’m so grateful for every extra day I get to spend with him 🙂
A beautiful song expressing such tenderness. I loved it!
Thank you! Now I have something special to remember him by. xx
Nicola,
You have greatly touched my heart with this song for Ewok. I only pray that this little guy can keep fighting. Animals touch our lives in unbelievable ways. Their unconditional love has been what has always amazed me. The love between a beloved pet and their human is locked in our hearts for eternity.
I pray for you all, and ask, if you would, please give Ewok a kiss for me.
Gerri
Thank you so much Gerri. I will give him a kiss for you too xx
Such beautiful music Nicola, for such a special little dog. Animals are so wonderful, they are unconditional, bless you. xx
Thank you Linda xxx
Yes, a beautiful song expressing so much love and anguish, Nicola. The joint love expressed by all of us in your community of songsters will hopefully support you through this difficult time.

Love for another human being or for a pet is inspiration for beautiful music.
Yes, I agree.
I have two havanese babies (8 yrs) and they are my life. At 65 yrs of age I went through a divorce and they were my life support and still the love of my life today. So sad to here about your baby. God bless and take care.
Thank you xx
