How to Have a More Creative Day

Creative energy fuels our passions, dreams, and innovations, but what should you do if you feel stuck in a monotonous loop, devoid of inspiration? Fear not my friend, for your creative renaissance is just a click away!

In today’s video I have three easy steps to help unlock a more inventive you. Best of all, you can try out these steps today to get your creativity flowing!

Here are a few ways to be more creative every day

Be Curious

Ask questions, explore new subjects, and seek to understand the world around you with an open mind. Curiosity fuels creativity by encouraging you to think outside the box.

Practice Mindfulness

Spend time doing yoga or meditation, or simply stop for five minutes each day and pay attention to the present moment. Listen to what is going on around you. The sounds, the smells, how your body feels etc. Mindfulness can help you tap into deeper levels of creativity by quieting the noise of daily life.

Read More Widely and More Often

Reading books, articles, and other materials from various genres and subjects can expose you to different perspectives and ideas, stimulating creative thinking. Sure vampire romance novels are fun, but try something from a new genre to kick your brain into a new gear.

Engage in Creative Hobbies

Try painting for fun – or paint in a new medium if you already paint regularly. Try writing poems or short stories. Try making things rhyme or not rhyme. Have a go at a new musical instrument. These activities keep your creative brain active and you will seek more creativity the more you engage in.

Collaborate with Others

Working with others can be a great way to stimulate creativity. When I songwrite with others, we come up with songs I’d just not create by myself. I’ve not collaborated on an art project yet, but if you have an arty friend that does something, see if you can put your minds together to create something cool.

Take A Break

If you’re writing a song and you hit a lyric roadblock, I often step away (sometimes for a walk, sometimes for a day or two!) and come back to it later with fresh ears. It can make a huge difference and really refreshes your mind.

Embrace Failure

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or try new things. Sometimes I’ll deliberately try to draw something crap because I know it often leads to something good. This technique works a treat because you’re putting zero pressure on yourself.

Create a Creative Space

Some people can work in a mess. I personally can’t. I need to have a clean environment and bonus points if it is also creatively decorated. It just helps me get into a more creative vibe.

Set Aside Time for Creativity

Just like any other skill, creativity benefits from regular practice. Set aside specific time in your schedule for ‘just being creative’, even if it’s just a few minutes a day.

I hope you enjoyed these tips on how to have a more creative day. See you next time.
